I've had a few conversations with GP about the Nitto weight specs.  They 
are, in a word, extremely conservative (yeah..two words). If you see 4 
pounds, then imagine that set on the rack in the worst possible way and 
torqued in the most aggressive manner possible.  For most folks and uses, 
you aren't likely to have the rack fail first. 

I've used the Mark's as a rear bag support, and as a free-standing rack. 
 Stellar.
