Depending on the bike and the ride -
Saddlebag -
One or two spare tubes. (The Rivendell bikes also have Einstein patch
kits. Although have rarely used them.)
Tool kit. Either modified Park Tool kit with 4-6mm wrenches, tire
levers, spoke wrench, four inch crescent wrench and chain tool.
Non Riv bike, Topeak Alien II tool kit.
Saddle cover
Rubber gloves (for chain work).
skinny combo cable lock
AHH pocket knife (moves between bikes).

Each bike has a primary saddlebag, Duluth Pack on Atlantis, Carradice
Barley on Hillborne.

Handlebar bag will have wallet, change purse, hanky, keys, camera,
cell phone, Park MT-1 all in one tool, and either sunglasses or
regular glasses. If no handlebar bag on the ride, all of that fits in
the saddlebag on the Rivendell bikes. My Surly LHT has a Berthoud
handlebar bag.

Yes, it's overkill. Big time. Figure it still weighs less than the
extra weight I'm carrying around the middle.
