Sheesh! "Sharkteeth" used to indicate a worn ring!

I've ridden numerous derailleur systems without front derailleur or chain
guide; I never dropped a chain.

Similar threads over the years have many people dropping chains without a
chain guide; others, as many, don't.

If'n I was you, I'd try putting a "normal" chainring back on and observe
what happens.
