Patrick: I have been very tempted indeed by that Guvnor that Geeter was selling (people, puh*leeze* sign off with your real names), but no, Advent Lent is coming up, and I'm about to toss $1,200 and change at a huge, top end monitor with RAM and modem/router upgrade, so no.
But what I'd do with one of these things is swap the 28 X 1.5 (= 38 mm) for 700C by Snoqualmie Pass 44s, which per the algorithms in Jim's trail calculator gives a wheel diameter of 718 mm, compared to a radius with the stock 630 X 38s of 359 mm. And man, those Snoqualmie Pass tires look perfect for a bike like this. FWIW, my brother just rode over on a very nice, old Giant MTB drop bar conversion, with Rat Trap Passes on ~ 24 mm rims; the RTPs measured a caliper determined 48.8 mm wide and a yardstick determined 26 1/2" tall -- 333 mm per Jim. IOW, the 559 X ~50 Rat Trap Pass is just about exactly the same height as a 700C X 23 racing tire, at least on my brother's ~24 mm rims. Oh dear; Patrick, you and I could have matching, twin, Pashleys, you a 5 speed, me Geeter's with that wonderful AM hub ... I'll grow a beard, you slant your eyes to make them half Oriental.
