I had a rim fail like this but it happened very quickly. I didn’t notice anything until the wheel locked up and I came to a skidding halt. I managed to keep the bike upright but it was a pretty scary experience. On a front wheel especially it could be a very dangerous failure. I think of this as a downside to rim brakes not a feature or benefit.
