While I find the Microshifts less precise than the equivalent Shimano shifters, I think in practice they work fine. I've never had to "nudge the pulley" as you say in order to upshift. Occasionally a downshift requires a bit more of a nudge, but it isn't frequent. Most of the time I just use them and don't think about it, as it should be with a shifter.
On the upside, I find the Microshift units are far more impervious to copious quantities of sweat. I live in Austin, Texas and I sweat a lot. I've gummed up a couple of Shimano bar end shifters to the point that even soaking them in turpentine or alcohol for a week would not free them up. I've never had this problem with the Microshift units and I have 4 years under my belt with the pair on my Road Standard. Further to the OP's point, I would prefer to switch my Clem from friction to 8sp indexed. The Microshift model for the 8 speed indexed downtube shifters is SL-D08. Those should bolt right on the thumb mount. Has anyone seen those in the wild? I did find the 8 speed bar-ends in the wild, I guess one could disembowel one of those to change an existing 8 speed friction thumbie to indexed, and then try to find a downtube in 9, 10, or 11 and use the bar end mounts for one of those. http://www.bikeman.com/LD0210.html?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=GoogleBase&utm_campaign=GoogleBase&gclid=CjwKCAjwhevaBRApEiwA7aT536as9fAcE_mIt8pOBvAq1pxLLdaTi0SglfBXUgbteR8uQv-xObI3QxoCBOAQAvD_BwE Anyway, hope this helps someone. -Jim On Fri, Jul 27, 2018 at 12:59 PM Joe Bernard <joerem...@gmail.com> wrote: > The SunRace and Microshift indexing both suffer from not having a very > good re-centering action.
