I use the K-Lite on my Matthews, which I ride on dirt irrigation roads at
night (and, I have poor night vision). Yes, the K-Lite is very bright. I
use my hand to block the beam on the rare occasions I face an oncoming
rider. So far, no-one has cursed at me.

FWIW, I don't notice the drag of the K-Lite even on high. That said, I
don't run it except at night.
