I'd have to see your bars to know what you're talking about as to your current setup and what's "in the way". If it is the setup that riv seems to promote, with the shifters literally "at hand", then yea ..... not my cup 'o tea but whatever floats the boat. What about putting the shifters more forward of the brake levers ? Or, if the bars are steel, bar end brake levers and putting some top mounted "regular" thumb shifters on the top of the bar where you like ?
