I think he mentioned his wife's involvement as an affirmation that it's 
good enough that she had to have her own. At least that's how I read it. 
Mismatched tires are somewhat common amongst the general bike owner 
population; they are not nearly as fastidious to match tires, not to 
mention bags. This explanation is also apt for the 9 vs 10 speed mistake. :)
