The independent research does not support the meat-heavy low carb diet espoused by a number of health gurus, not does the research support the high carb empty calories diet most Americans consume. Both lead to increased risk of heart disease and the latter, in particular, to diabetes. There's a middle ground to be found.

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Michael Pollan's advice seems reasonable.

I also like "moderation in all things. Including moderation." I think that was Mark Twain's advice.
