When I first thought of a quick and easy S240, Mt. Diablo was the first that came up to mind. We started from Walnut Creek Bart and headed our way to the Juniper campgrounds. Three of us came semi- prepared with panniers on our bikes. One of my buddies, Farid, bought his hiking backpack with 30+ pounds of gear, with no tent. After riding a mile up the mountain, we find our buddy Farid dropped. It wasn't the thirty pounds of gear or the mountain biking tires that was giving him trouble it was the fact that it was his first time riding up Mt.Diablo. Being great friends we decided to carry his stuff for him. Duy takes his sleeping bag and I take his hiking backpack and we continue up the mountain. While climbing Farid and I had an amusing conversation. I told him, "Just let me know if you need to stop." he replies, " I'll stop when it starts to level out." I laugh because Mt.Diablo never levels out. When get to Juniper with just enough time to see the sunset! We set up camp and eat sloopy joes for dinner and wake up to Cambells soup in the morning. We ride the last leg up to the top and hike a bit before descending down back to BART. Great trip, great food, great friends.
Pictures prove that we were there: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mannyacosta/sets/72157623688777100/ -Manny " It's just one more turn.."
