That’s a bummer. Most hardware stores sell foam pipe covers designed for insulating water pipes. They are split along their length. I use them whenever I ship a bike or frame. They can be used many times over and are easily secured with zip ties. Bubble wrap is another option. It might be worth putting a kit together since you transport your bikes often enough.
