I'll probably do a Phil / 36 2|1.7|2 / A719 wheel and call it a day.

Based on experience with modern Mavic rims (anything later than the MA2), I would recommend steering clear of any Mavic rims. The basic problems there are the use of a weaker alloy (because it finishes nicer than the stronger alloy) and their anodizing which further weakens the rim, making them prone to cracking. And to make up for it, Mavic charges about double to triple what other rim makers charge.

Every recent Mavic rim I have used on a rear wheel has cracked around the spoke holes and failed, several of them in less than 1000 miles, with the exception of an MA3 which has lasted about 5000 miles (on a zero dish, 36 spoke single speed wheel, so that may have something to do with it). My old MA2 rims, on the other hand, last 10s of thousands of miles. My Sun polished rims last just as long (I had to replace the rear one on my All-Rounder after 13 years and at least 15,000 miles). A rim should last until the braking surfaces wear out.

FWIW I am 215 lbs and I carry minimal weight on the bike as a rule. My bike position is pretty standard road racer.
