I put a TA Cyclotouriste crankset (half-step plus granny, 46-42-26) on my '87 Peugeot a couple of years ago, replacing the original Nervar 52-42 double. I just kept the original front derailleur and it shifts quite well.
I believe I once read somewhere that these old TA triple cranks generally do better with a double front derailleur. Anyway it works for me.
