Anne: I think it will work as a shirt for someone as big as your son. I am just under 6' and relatively (by north american standards anyway) light weight. I have a large which as I say above I use as a light jacket. I can easily wear it over a regular size shirt. The sleeves are long on me. In cold weather I pull them over my hands when I ride as a wind block. Otherwise I have to roll the sleeves.
