Greetings everyone ...... I'm in search of some smooth post
cantilever pads, or even new brakes ..... that don't squeal and work
at least good in if wet.

I was all set to use a NOS pair of Suntour XC Pro canti's for the
Bombadil, but the low profile's performance was not what I expected
because the huge tire clearance gives bad yoke angles. I use them on
another bike and they are fantastic. I have a set of vintage Shimano
wide profiles on there now, but the old stock pads are average at
best. When they get wet, it's scary.

Kool Stops are out .... they stop OK, but both the black and salmon
pads squeal like a hog for me. Three different canti's , loads of
different setups ...... 2 sets of wheels ..... they can squeal a 1
mph. These are the only brake pads I've ever had squeal in decades of
riding.

So I'm wondering if there are any decent pads that don't squeal that
give at least good(non life threatening) performance when wet.

Dia Compe Gray Matter?
Yokozuna pads w/holder? Is the compound the same as KS Salmon? Gen-X
Black compound ?
Swiss Stop green or black pads ?
Aztec pads?
VO Squeal Free Pads w/holder? I've heard mixed reports on these.
Short lasting pads. Not squeal free for everyone.

After seeing all the possibilities .......and the time and money
involved in trying to find a pad, maybe it's better to try some
CR720's or IRD Cafam or something if I knew they worked well and had
decent stock pads, and replacement pads available. The Cafam looks
okay, but I'm wondering if the salmon compound is the same as KS.

I've "read" that the CR720's pads are not so great and are abrasive
to rims. Fact or fiction?

It seems with youth ignorance is bliss. I never really thought about
the pads I was using. With age comes too much thinking .... too much
worry. Then again ... I never had pads that squealed like a hog
either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
