I have a 30 year old hPX that fits well under the top tube. But when carrying tent poles (wrapped in a pair of socks and lashed to the top tube), I move the pump to between the chainstays, along the seat tube. Both locations work great. As for the pump, I discovered a few months ago that the parts are still available and usually in stock at the LBS.
