The first generation Rivendell Road Standard bikes were painted in several standard colors. These included orange, blue and green (these were/are Grant Peterson's preferred palette). In addition, for an extra cost, they added a contrasting creme color on the headtube. You could also have the frame pinstriped and personalized with your name on the left-side chainstay.
Finally, if you wished, they also were receptive to providing a custom color for an upcharge. This is what I had done for my bike, with a paint that I'd seen in an early (1981 era) Paramount bicycle brochure. The color was "Light Saddle Metallic", and it was a Sherwin- Williams Sun Fire 421 acrylic enamel (all of the 1981 Paramounts were painted with the same type of paint, these were the first Paramounts produced by the newly established Waterford facility). I also had the frame pinstriped and added the personalization. Here's a link to my Flickr photostream with photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37964...@n05/sets/72157619758078965/ Everyone has their own favorite color palette, but I think this color is especially classy.
