To me it comes down to the purpose of my ride. Commuting/training solo ... weight doesn't matter. A fun day out riding with friends.. it matters just enough that I can stay comfortably with the group. I certainly don't worry about butted or straight gauge spokes but an extra 10 lbs on the bike makes the day a lot less fun on a group ride.
