Excellent weather this year, not too hot, and a nice tailwind much of the
way. Graham had a great experience in his first STP. He was safe, alert,
and faster than I had imagined, arriving in Centralia and Portland around
2:00 each day. Some chucklehead apparently scattered tacks along the
roadside near Scapoose in Oregon, but we were fortunate enough to miss that
feature, and otherwise the riders and communities were mutually supportive.
I like this ride more and more each year.

We saw a nice fellow on a 58cm Sam on the road and a 56cm blue Rambouillet
at the start in Seattle, along with 7,456 Madones. Watching the race bikes
on the chip-seal and hearing and seeing the vibration in their frames and
forks made me appreciate my Saluki and Hetres; our bikes performed
exceptionally well.
