I have a question, not specifically RBW-related, but hopefully you'll
indulge me: Having removed (and sold) a crankset from my Bleriot, I've
noticed that the bottom bracket that I installed less than 200 miles ago
turns rather stiffly, when turned by hand on the square-taper shaft. For
comparison, I pulled out a Shimano (UN-72, I believe) unit from the parts
bin. It has somewhat uncertain mileage, but may be in the vicinity of 15K
miles. I'd say that it turns 2 to 3 times easier than the BB that is
installed. The installed BB is a VO unit. Should I be concerned? Do they
loosen up with mileage? Would I feel the difference in riding? ( I need
all the help I can get!) And finally, should I just find a compatible
Shimano unit to replace the current BB with? (I have no interest in going
upscale, thanks).
Steve
