I also have this taillight on my Sam. I look at it as the baseline for the rest of my safety gear - no matter what, it's on the bike, i don't have to worry about the batteries wearing out, and i can't forget it.
I don't think that it is an awesome safety solution on it's own. i add a planet bike blinky to the back of my saddlesack, wear ankle reflectors, have reflective stuff on my clothing, use a safety triangle, and have pedal reflectors at various different times depending on where I am going.
