That's a real possibility for one of the two rear lights I like to use at
night, flashing and steady. The problem with all the LED tail lights I've
used is that they need to be more or less on-axis if they are to have full
effect. Clipping one to a saddlebag means that, usually, it will be
off-axis -- y'all have probably seen night riders with blinkies pointing
earth- or skyward and therefore giving only feeble illumination. I do have
a strobe (Lightman) that will work well even off-axis, but strobes use
batteries at a far higher rate than even brilliant LEDs: the Lightman has a
life of 2 hours on 2 fresh AAs.

However, I'll have to try my newer, more powerful blinkies off-axis. I just
got two original edition Vistalights and, let me tell you, LED blinkies
have come a long way, baby, in the last 20 years.

What is a PDW "arc welder class" blinkie?

A billion stars go spinning through the night
Blazing high above your head;
But in you is the Presence that will be
When all the stars are dead.
