The tight kickstand/cable clearance on my wife's Kona is a bit closer than a pinch or a rub... http://www.flickr.com/photos/15966859@N07/7604199554/ It's been fine for several years with this big-a-notch. If you're worried about compromising the strength of the kickstand plate, rather than a "notch" file out a fair curve.
