Wool knits are much better, no?

I just was given an old cycling jacket: full zip, rear pockets, knit
fabric (don't know if it is wool, but feels good -- not plasticky)
with thin nylon panels over the front. Excellent in that, while it
stops wind, it allows sweat to evaporate, unlike full nylon jackets.

Frankly, I've not ridden anything that is better for cold weather
cycling than wool knits: surprisingly warm for their bulk and said to
insulate even when wet -- I've never gotten soaked in wool, tho' on
Friday I did get rained on -- single layer of soft Sugoi merino with
Ibex wool arm warmers. Perfectly warm despite the howling headwind and
drizzle on the way home.
