I'm a big fan of the shellac. It started out as an aesthetic tool to match the handlebars with my Honey Brooks saddle (about three coats of amber on white tape) which worked wonderfully. After riding for a while I really began to appreciate the texture and grip it provides and can't see switching to another material anytime soon.
