I recently bought an almost new Saluki, advertised on this site. There
should have been a bidding war for this bike, but that's another question.
This bike is drop dead gorgeous and I am looking forward to the end of
Mud Season here in Vermont to take it out on the road. Meanwhile I have
been working on a few, unfortunately, necessary changes. The stem / TT
combination is too long for me and unfortunately had to be changed out from
a beautiful Nitto Pearl. That went straight forward.

But the brake & rack combination has created some perplexity. The bike
came with a pair of Tektro brakes, identical to the ones RIV sells, except
a high polish finish; and a VO rack
(

) which mounts through the canti brakes. It also has a set of VO AL
fenders which are bolted to the fenders.

I wanted to swap the brakes for my Neo Retros, which first required a new
mounting bolt, which I obtained from Pauls. But when I mounted them on the
bile I found that the rack no longer mated with the fender. Apparently the
Paul bolt is beefier and longer than the VO version. As a result the rack
sits about an inch or more above the fenders.

This presents me with some options

A: Can I bend the rack to fit? This doesn't look easy.
B: Ignore the problem and the connection between the rack and front
fender.
C: Sell the rack and use an M12 mounted to the fork braise ons, which
will probably create a different contact point on the fender.
  D: Abandon the Pauls brakes.

Help wanted.
