Well while I doubt she wants to rebuild the SA hub on a Raleigh Sprite there are many levels of "used" bikes. I got a late 90s motobecane about 10 years ago that someone had traded in for their new ride. LBS gave it a good tune up and said it had something like a 30 day warranty to see if anything went major wrong. I rode it for a long time and it was a sweet ride, so sweet someone else really liked and stole it... :( I believe I paid $175, spent 40 on a decent seat and 20 on some new brake pads, so $200ish for a bike I never would have been able to afford in the late 90s new.
