Hey Franklyn, either of the above two routes would be fine for getting to the coast. You should email Michael Wolfe (escapevelocipede) as he can probably give you other options. The guy seems to have ridden every road in the area. Not to complicate things, but if you were to head into the Mt Hood National Forest, you'd have access to quieter roads and likely better weather.
