Thomas - I find the combination very stable. I tried the smaller basket
first because I was concerned about the stability of a larger basket on the
mini rack, but found it didn't fit my bag well. The larger basket perfectly
fits my Patagonia Mini mass bag laying flat, and the load is then centered
right over the rack. A bungee net holds everything in place. If I pile it
high it is usually with a fleece or raincoat, so little weight. I carry an
strap in my saddlesack if I think the basket needs additional support, but
I have never used it. Bob (Indianapolis)
