Lee, I didn't really like the way it handled the load on descents. Too top heavy. I did a test run with this load for a 3 day trip but ultimately decided on small panniers. But I don't really mess around anymore, I just use large Ortlieb panniers on the rear. They work fine on my LHT. Oh, and I use an Ortlieb HB bag. The first tour I ever did was on my Hilsen. I wouldn't use it for touring again as I didn't like the way it rode with a load. But that's just me, I know others have had no problem touring on their Hilsens.
