I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience at New Brighton. I've camped there a lot. Sometimes if you arrive early (before 4:30) you can't go to the camping area right away, but that is the only trouble I've had.
And Gayles is really, really good. When I do an overnight at New Brighton, I don't even bring a stove. Dinner at Gayles, breakfast at Gayles, riding food purchased at Gayles. Yum. (Not for the low-carb crowd, though.)
