When I ride to work (and carry my laptop...I'm a software developer and I do oncall support aabout 1 week per month) I put my work laptop which is a Lenovo T430 in a padded neoprene sleeve I got from MEC and carry it in a backpack w lunch, work clothes, etc. My work commute is about 6K one way and 9K or so back.
