I have used one for about two years; I think it's a visual/perception issue. It looks like it extends out quite far, but when I look from the front or rear of the bike it does not extend out as far as my large Saddlesack on the rear. Also my albatross bars are wider still, so I encounter no practical issues with its width. I think you will enjoy the added flexibility it provides in securing items to the front of your bike.
