> > Great thread. > Number one that has worked for me is friction shifting. I always hated index shifting, always thought it temperamental and going out of adjustment at just the wrong time. I love the simplicity of friction shifting and the silver shifters work great in all forms I have tried it in.
Two, Sackville bags. I have a small saddlesack, barsack, toursacks, and some trunksacks. They have all been great. Three, Quill stems. I have accidentally bought and cut steering tubes too short and it has always blown when I want to get the bars higher. Thankfully, quill stems fix that issue. IV, Brooks saddles. The b17 was fitted to my Sam Hillborne and I just fell in love with it. I now have three bikes sportin' that saddle. My butt is thankful. Fiver,- is the frames I have. My Roadeo and my Sam Hillborne are just excellent. I can't really fault the ride of them at all. Great bikes. Six, the John's irish strap. That thing rocks.....I need some more. Seven, Wiggy's desert mummy sleeping bag. Works awesome for all the camping I do. It is a bit large, but it works great. Love it. 8, Rich built wheels - Set of 7 speed Phil "Rivy" freewheel hub laced to 650b Velocity Dyads has been absolutely awesome. Neuf, Lugged Nitto stem. Thing of beauty. It will show a little rust on the bolt and any parts that gets scratched....but that is because it is lugged steel awesomeness. zehn, - I really want a hatchet, or maybe two. I don't really need one, but I do live somewhere I could use it for actually taking apart a tree. ( I must confess I own a Husqavarna chainsaw.) Eleventieth - "Just Ride" - Great book, Grant. I gave some out as xmass gifts this year. I don't agree with everything, but there is a lot that just works in it. Twelve - Baskets. My sister took the one that I had installed on my Jamis when in Chicago and I haven't yet replaced it, but I should. It was an awesome stuff-carrying solution to commuting in a city or anywhere someone might steal all your expensive bags off the bike. They just work, and they are light. And why not end at Thirteen. - The entire Riv company and workforce. I have never had a problem with them or the biz; they are helpful and seem happy to work there, and they know what they are talking about and they don't waste time. I wish my local bike shop was half of what Riv is but sadly they aren't anywhere close. I have often told my wife "I want to work at Riv....we need to move, honey." What hasn't worked: Wool clothing. I just have skin that is too sensitive to the stuff. Railroad shirt they used to sell. It was the most wrinkly shirt I ever owned and the buttons started coming off right away. It made an entire load of laundry blue and shrunk. I really wanted to love that shirt, but it seriously didn't live up to the job. Rivendell cycling cap. I just look totally stupid in that hat. It is now a decoration in my bike room. It totally just didn't work with the shape of my face.....my wife laughed at me. Her laughing at me isn't new or anything, it is just that with that cap on it was justified that time. This would happen with any cycling cap though. Seat post binder bolt. It broke on my sam hillborne right away and the roadeo took a month and two adjustments to send it goodbye. It had to the the locking nut that they used, just doesn't like to be readjusted. I replaced them with local hardware store nuts and bolts and they are holding fine. No big deal, really. Trangia cookset. Not anything really wrong with the product, just have yet to use it. That is a problem I must remedy. Their derailer selection. I had to go to outside Riv for a road derailer for the Roadeo. Not a huge deal, but I didn't want an LX or XT mountain derailer hanging off that bike. I did buy an Ultegra groupset from a guy Rich knows. That is working well on the bike though (with friction barends though). Too bad they don't sell Hetres. yeah, I dont' use kickstands. I have had one come into the rear spokes while riding (trek 7.5fx) and they scare the crap out of me now. I know that doesn't make a ton of sense, but I'm still not over it. Why we get Fat book. Okay, I should actually read it, but I just can't get through it. I want someone to write out a daily diet of stuff I can find at the local supermarket that won't cost a ton that I should eat to be happy and healthy. I don't really want to know why it is good for me, just that this is what I should do. I should give the book a second go around...I need to lose some lbs. - Ryan Merrill Paducah, KY -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
