Thanks Garth. I've bee known to use that tactic myself, but it does require the cost of an extra shipping trip. The Sierra Trading Post gloves that I just ordered were marked "large" but were actually just right for my small-med hands (8") and far too small to use, as I had planned, as overgloves. Back they go.
I get the impression that individuals vary greatly in tolerance for cold hands. years ago I'd run in daily high temps that routinely were below 20*F wearing just a single, syntho-lined pair of cheap leather work gloves. I'd end up removing them after just a couple of miles. Now, I am much more sensitive. Also, I've found that even thick, lobster mitts are NDG* if they are too short and your fingers -- me, it's the thumb, fore-, and index fingers -- are rammed up against the gloves' ends.
