Michael's comment about "wheel proximity" just reminded me of one  
counterpoint that's worth mentioning, and that I really like:   Though I 
know it's not a big deal when it happens, the 26" wheel makes it 
possible to have the perfect Rivendell geometry - along with big tires and 
fenders - *without* the compromise of toe clip overlap!
