I agree, Rivs are overbuilt compared to most road bikes.  And that's a
great thing!  They last a lifetime and withstand dents well.  I can squish
the center of the top tube of my gofast bike with one finger and thumb!
 Too thin!  (Giordana with heat-treated Excell Eco steel)

You won't notice the extra ounces from the slightly thicker tubing when
you're riding.  You will notice it 20 years from now when your Riv still
looks good and rides straight.
