apply  the PVC glue to the joints, this will hold the couplings in  place
permanently. You are not trying to make a water tight joint here,  just hold
everything together.

I was wondering about that, but wasn't sure how well the glue would seep  
between the coupler and the PVC to make any kind of a bond let alone how to do  
it cleanly and not get a glue goop look
