All of our fixed artillery pieces include a Guard Squad, with the number
of squad members determined by the CD and battlers prior to the start of
the battle. Guards are indeed an integral part of the fixed artillery
emplacement, allowing opponents to destroy the gun by killing all of the
Guards. When that happens, the artillery operator must take all fallen
soldiers back to Home Base, along with any ammo stockpiled at the gun.
The operator can only return when a Support Vehicle hauls the soldiers
and 40 rounds of ammo back to the artillery emplacement. At that point,
the operator re-deploys the Guards and can then resume artillery
operations. Guards are worth 250 pts each when the artillery piece is
destroyed. Guards must be placed 10 feet from the artillery piece and
may not be hidden behind any obstruction.
