Some folks are using 5/8" keyed shafts, others like me are using 3/4"
keyed shafts. I would say 5/8" is sufficient. I went with 3/4"
because that was the shaft size that allowed me to mate 11 tooth 41
pitch drive sprockets with the 42 pitch sprockets on the M-01 motors.
I think 1" shafts would be some serious overkill. In regards to chain
lengths, I used a set of different sized screw drivers (from small to
large) and a hammer to separate the 2060 pitch chain links. For any
chain under 40, I have a small chain breaker tool that pushes the pins
out. On my 50 pitch hollow pin chain I had to use the hammer and
screw driver method.
