Doug,
How big of a hatch are you making? I've never had trouble with
paint leaking into the compartment. I would flush mount the hatch, I
use 1" brass hinges , and have the hatch rest on an inner lip. If you
want to ,line the lip with thin rubber from a bicycle tube. I'll show
you the locking key next battle that I made for the Comet.
