Caterpillar drive chain is roller chain (typically drop-forged rivetless) with rounded teeth called "dogs" that are in line with the run of the chain. It's used in heavy-duty conveyor systems.
http://www.challengehardware.com.tw/Attachment.htm has photos of chain with 3 dog sizes, along with some individual dogs. http://www.challengehardware.com.tw/Equipment(d).htm shows some complete drive units. http://www.drivesinc.com/images/ag-ctlg-p28.pdf has a diagram showing some item being driven by caterpillar chain under a roller assembly. The examples I've found all seem to use ANSI 160 chain, which has a 2" pitch. That's probably too large for use in this hobby.
