There are some manufactureers out there who make 1/24 scale tanks.

I bought an M1 Abrams a while back.

How about buying somethignlike that then take the turret and upper
chassis off and making your own?

That will save you teh trouble of building the running gear and you
might be able to preseve the electronics as well.
