Although I hand drew my sprockets, there was some basic calculations involved
in finding out the size and correct teeth before starting to draw.
First, I set a maximum sprocket diameter that would let the tracks stay clear
of the upper hull. Lets say 4". The I figured the circumference, 4" x 3.16 =
12.64", or about 12 5/8" (12.625").
Second, I took one track pad width (1") and added a 1/4" (the thickness of one
sprocket tooth) to get a 1.25" figure. I divided 12.625 by 1.25 to get 10.1,
or 10 teeth for about a 4" diameter sprocket.
Lastly, I nail down the actual diameter by taking 10, multiplying by 1.25,
then dividing by 3.16 to get 3.95" (3 15/16")

Knowing the diameter (3.955") and the number of teeth (10), you should be able
to put those numbers into that online sprocket generator and get a basic
sprocket. If you have to use pitch, use 1.25".

The Spartan's sprocket teeth is slightly less than 1/4" thick.

I'm sure one of the CAD guys could make a sprocket in no time flat versus the 5
drawings it took me to get something usable. heh.

Mike

PS The Spartan videos are posted on the second and third page of the SV-15
pages in RC Tank Combat web site.

In fact I got inspired enough to work on my least-favorite (and
therefore slowest) part... assembling the tracks! That and actually
generating the drive sprockets. I looked at Mike's, which are glorious
and awesome, but I can't get the online sprocket generator to make one
with skinny enough teeth and wide enough valleys (very technical
terms, to be sure!). Anyone have suggestions on the sprocket problem?
(This is for TTS with sprocket drive)
