Thanks, Doug. I think I would prefer to build a paintball tank rather than upgrade this one to an armored car. I've done some preliminary tracking down of parts for a tank, but haven't committed any $ yet.
I'm not really thinking about building a mech, but I follow what the mech warfare guys are doing just out of curiosity. They occasionally find some interesting technology. They have an open S/W app for heads- up display for their video cams, and I think one guy has developed a video moving target tracker for his mech, using either CMUcam or the Blackfin camera, I forget. Anyway, the extra complexity of building a walking vehicle doesn't really appeal to me that much, nor traveling long distance to the competition. I think a FPV game that uses ordinary vehicles could be just as interesting. If people want a robotic challenge, some version of autonomy plus target tracking would be more than enough challenge. I did build an "all-terrain" rover type robot that manages to rove around my backyard avoiding obstacles. It uses sonar, bumper switches, and tilt switches for when it tries to climb the fence. I'm thinking about what to do with it next. Maybe add a video target tracker or some other sensor for detecting targets at appreciable range. I uploaded a picture to Files - "Wheeled Vehicle No 3". -- You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group.
