Lighter tanks are so much easier to manage, though. I need a ramp to load
and unload my tank and a winch to get it up on the workbench. Two people
will work for those things, too. I was so jealous when I saw Joe tuck his
Sevomente under one arm and walk off the battlefield. I think he may be the
king of lightweight tanks. Both the Hetzer and Sevomente are pretty light.

How does he do it ? The Hetzer is mostly acrylic. I know he's had a couple
of breakages. The Sevomente was roto-cast. I think it's all plastic with
some aluminum reinforcement. Both use plastic tracks. I think both use drill
motors, which are small and light. Neither tank has a turret, but I don't
think there's much weight saved there.

Speaking of turrets, my Tiger uses a vacu-formed turret (thanks to Joe and
Charlie Mann). It is light and plenty strong enough to fend off paintballs.
The T-72 turret is epoxy fiberglass and very light. It hasn't been battle
tested yet, but I think it will be just fine.

I don't really care about lightness of my tank. It's not a F1 racecar, it's
a tank. I know that a lighter tank would be more efficient on battery life,
but I have yet to explore the total runtime. I know it's over 20mins on the
Sturmtiger which weights about 100lbs. My tanks are a two person lift...:)

Some questions about materials came up in my planning for a tank. I
want a light weight tank. What is the lightest tank built so far, and
what is it constructed of? Any opinions? What are the disadvantages of
a light weight tank? (Like if a heavy tank collides with it.) The
upper hull is where most of the complex shapes are, so what is the
lightest material that is easy to work into shapes but is also
resistant to paintball impacts?
