Cardboard mockups are a good idea, especially when working from small
plans. I built a mockup for my L 40/37, and was surprised at the
limited space that I had to work with. (Just how am I going to fit
everything in?...). Project got delayed due to "life" (being an older
grad student can be exciting), but I'm getting everything back
together and trial-fitting components. To be honest, looking at the
mockup and the motors, I almost changed my mind, either on scale or on
the tank, but decided to try it anyway. If things get too tight, I can
alter the top slightly and make it into the ammo-carrier variant and
have the first support vehicle in my neck of the woods. (Always have a
Plan B... and since there are no tanks around here currently, it would
be safe :-) Anyway, the cardboard version lets me do a lot of fitting
and planning without the time and expense of a real hull, and figure
out details that may be lacking on small plans.
