Joker,

10 degrees is max for elevate but you won't need that much.  My
Cromwell maxes out at 7 degrees and I'm no slouch at the long distance
shooting.  The key to long distance shooting is fine-adjustment.  Your
mechanism should be able to increment in small amounts and smoothly
(elevate and rotate).

If you can get the end of your barrel to within a foot of the ground
you wont have any issues hitting the artillery solders.  As another
poster suggested, running over the solders doesn't work, I've tried
that already.
