Episode 9- A New Hope

A long time ago (16 April) in a galaxy far away (near Stoke on Trent)
a small band of rebels met to overthrow the evil Empire and
incidentally throw a whole load of paintballs at each other. After a
short altercation on which side was which it was decided that BOTH
sides could make Darth Vader noises and NO-ONE had to fight in their
pyjamas or wear a cream bun on each side of their head.

At this point Pete discovered that his Valentine had been sabotaged by
Sand People and was not working. He accordingly took over the Locust
T055 while Phil proudly wheeled out the newly-fixed Hetzer T057.
Unfortunately after a few moves the Sand People struck again leaving
the Hetzer limping ineffectively with undiagnosed steering/suspension
problems. For the other team, after the usual cursing Neil managed to
get the Leopard to play and Claire took on the Jeep which seemed to
have stopped shedding wheels.

It was decided that the scenario would be that both sides would try to
capture/rescue Princess Leia (cunningly disguised as Nurse Nellie) in
the middle of the battlefield and also R2D2, containing the Plans of
the Giant Marder- um, spacestation (R2D2 was even more cunningly
disguised as a bean can with the letters “R2D2” written on the side).
Each asset could capture one, but not both of these, and had to get
them to a Safe Place (from which they could also be recaptured).

We got some battling in but it will be apparent that the Force Was Not
With Us and we left after a short one-day battle rather than a 2-day
one. We did however manage to test my latest infantryman, Fritz, as I
wanted to see if he was paintball-proof (which the previous soldier,
Otto, was not). It seemed that This Was Not the Droid Neil Was Aiming
At but we soon discovered that a 1/6th moving figure, even moving as
slowly as Fritz, is quite difficult to hit- and yes paintballs do not
harm him.

And so we went away vowing to return again (and I haven’t even started
on the Jar Jar Binks jokes yet).

Claire has the photos Any chance we can see them?

Phil
